THE TANKED UP MAGAZINE PIG |
![]() | |
![]() ![]() | Finally, it's your chance to be a pig: a Tanked Up Magazine Guinea Pig, and fill your greedy hands with free stuff. Here's how it works: Being a media type publication magazine kind of thing, all manner of dive companies are queueing up to give us free stuff with the noble and simple dream twinkling in their altruistic hearts that we promote it for them so that they might make more money. Now we're busy [lazy] people and we can't bear to leave the confines of our desks in order to go galavanting around the world having a good time underwater. Nevertheless, there's every chance that you (yes, YOU) have. As such, we're quite prepared to give you the opportunity to get your hands on these free items of material goodness, as long as you promise to test them out for us (rather than just skipping off into the sunset with them gripped between your teeth) and tell us whether they're a) worth every hard-earned penny of the cash you didn't pay for them, or b) tat. This time around we have an IQ Dive Bag 90 up for grabs. This is what IQ have to say about it: Lightweight – With a net weight of about 3.5kg the Dive Bag 90 is easily comparable with other light weight travel bags of similar volume. Carry your things, not your bag! Trolley or backpack? Both! – With an adjustable telescope handle and two ballbearing inline wheels you can easily manoeuvre your Dive Bag over smooth surfaces. As soon as it gets uncomfortable to pull, you can simply use the integrated padded shoulder straps and carry your bag over uneven ground or deep sand. Also, you can turn down the bag which holds the shoulder straps and fix it with a Velcro tape to the bottom of the bag. That way your back is safe from pressure marks and dirty wheels. Plastic zips – Made from synthetic material to avoid rust. Please rinse them with fresh water anyway as salt water can destroy anything. Two combination locks included for the main compartments. Durable – In addition to the wheels with ball-bearings and plastic sups, the robust and colourfast 600 denier fabric all make sure that you enjoy your bag for a long time.

Is it as good as it sounds, or are they truth terrorists? Seize your chance to find out by filling in the form below (you can also volunteer yourself to be a random guinea pig at any time in the future; it's just pot-luck what you might win). If you're struggling with the question, a small peek here really ought to help.

Oliver Powell was the winner of the
Halcyon Coldwater Defender Spool from issue 7. This is what he had to say: "When I received the defender spool, I was really excited about how it would perform, and also, why Halcyon had decided to slightly change the conventional spool. The spool is really nicely cast with not a rough edge anywhere. It is also light but not too light. These two features are very important because when using a spool as a cave line you need it light so that line can be placed easily and quickly but you need a little weight to it so that when deploying an SMB it doesn't easily jump out of your hand when the bag heads off to the surface. The smoothness of the reel means that it never snags on gloves while being used. I love diving and I love diving in adverse conditions so the need to be able to send a Surface Marker Buoy up to the surface with a minimal amount of fuss is paramount. The Defender is also a 'cold water' spool which means the hole running through the spool is of large diameter which again allows the spool to be deployed even when wearing thick 5 or 7mm gloves. What they have done is add a small rim around the hole on the spool and put some holes in it. I could not get my head around why it was there, then after deploying the spool a few times I realised it was used for reeling the line in. A really neat idea, however the spool would still work beautifully without it."
